One day Monty, our Pomeranian Cross, was barking at the front gate of our property and would not stop. My husband Craig told him to be quiet, but he would not stop barking. He decided that he better investigate and imagine his surprise when he saw a young boy, who was unconscious, being dragged off the road by his older brother. He screamed at the older boy to stop moving him and put him into the coma position and by this stage, I had rushed in to call an ambulance.

The younger boy had been riding on the handlebars of the bike and was being dinked by his older brother. They had hit a bump in the road caused by an underground tree root and the younger boy fell off hitting the road head first and ended up with a fractured skull. Both boys were not wearing helmets. The ambulance driver said that if Craig had not stopped the younger boy from being moved, he could have permanent brain damage.

The older boy rushed home to tell his mother what had happened as they lived at the end of our street. Apparently, the mother did not know that the boys were out, as they had snuck out the bedroom window. So you can imagine her shock at being told the news.

Thankfully, the young boy made a full recovery after spending many months’ in hospital. The family involved told us that they were so thankful for Monty’s persistent barking and that he was a Hero for saving their son and brother’s life. Monty is our Hero and we are so thrilled to have him as a part of our family. He is a real character and brings our family a lot of joy and laughter with his funny antics.
