Cheeky Mouser

My friend had two mice as pets, she was going on a trip around Australia and asked me to mouse-sit her mice while she was away.

I agreed not knowing that my cat 'Marty' was going to be a problem.

The first couple of hours of the mice's arrival was successful with the cat not knowing there were mice in HIS house. But within the afternoon he'd picked up on it and wasn't a happy cat. Marty spent many afternoons watching those mice.

One afternoon however, was what made me realise how clever and cheeky my cat actually was. I was going out shopping with some friends, and whilst I was checking through my purse I noticed my cat lingering outside my room. As soon as we locked eyes he immediately became busy sniffing my bag. I continued checking the contents of my purse and once again I glanced at my cat.
"Marty." i said and my cat took off down the staircase.
Giving the room a final glance and checking to make sure the mouse cage was secured, I left.
I paused for a second at the door and gave a final glance to check the mice one last time before I began to shut the door. That was when I heard a plastic bag being disturbed in the room.

I turned around but couldn't see anything so I walked into the room and Marty poked his head out from behind my computer. Marty is a sneaky cat and he succeded in getting those mice, (ALMOST).

What had happened was after he ran down the staircase and as I was leaving the room, he snuck back upstairs. When I glanced back at the mice quickly, he creaped into my room disturbing a plastic bag on his way in.
Hearing the plastic bag crinkle my cat dashed out of sight behind the computer.

I ended up keeping the mice and boy, do I have fun with devising new plans to stop my cat Marty from figuring out how the door on the mouse cage works.
