"I'll give you a steady up, old man"

This story was told to me by my neighbour.

It was an extremely hot day and I didn't wish to leave our two dogs outside all day while we went to work.

I left Cole (5 1/2 year Rottweiler) and Ralph (16 year old Kelpie x Border Collie) inside the house with the airconditioning on. I left keys with our naighbour, asking her to check on the dogs during the day and let them out for toilets. I advise the neighbour that Ralph had arthritis and Dementia and he was our main worry. I knew Cole would just invite himself next door but I wanted him to stay with Ralph.

The neighbour tells me that when she went to check on the dogs later that day she ended up having to carry Ralph out to encourage him to have a piddle.
Cole stayed by her side showing great concern for Ralph.

When she got Ralph outside and went to set him down, it was obvious to her she was going to have to prop him up for a little until he fully woke up and found his legs. Cole showed concern as she put Ralph down sniffing him gently. Then, to my neighbour's delight, Cole placed his big boofy head under Ralph's chest area as if to say to him "I'll give you a steady up old man". This appeared to rally Ralph as he gave himself a bit of a shake and wandered off, with Cole behind him to keep an eye on him.

Thank you Ruth

Cole has done an number of amazing things to look after Ralph (and other peole too)- I have submitted other stories too.
Not bad since when they were first introduced a couple of years ago, Ralph already an old man and always been an only dog, Cole a rambunctious teenager - everybody said it would be the end of Ralph, when in actual fact it has been his saving.
