My Horatio is a pretty smart cat and at 16 years he's still going strong, but he really doesn't like any company in his home, even my parents.
When my parents come to visit we often play cards. Horatio just can't stand this intrusion into his little world. He has never liked to share me, and wants to be the center of attention at all times. He starts banging the kitchen cupboard doors. Next he'll jump up on the dishwasher, and rattle the wall calendar until it falls on the floor. Then he crys. Now I don't know if you've heard an upset Siamese being vocal, but they can really be loud. If I don't pay him any mind, he rolls his food container between his paws. (I keep a plastic container of special cat food as a treat on top of the dishwasher). I learned quite quickly not to use a glass container!!. If I still ignore him, he will knock the container onto the floor with a crash. Then he will knock the phone off the hook, so it lands onto the tin food containers which store his normal food. More crying at an increased level of agitation.
Much to my parents' amusement, I've found if I pull a high stool up beside me, Horatio will come and sit regally upon it. He will watch the game, but mostly he sits and stares at me with love in his eyes. No more crying or carrying on. If I take too long getting the stool, he will sit on it with his back to me, glancing over once in awhile to see if I notice that he's still "very" upset with me. His antics really amuse my folks.
He just doesn't want to miss out on anything, but most of all he just wants to be near me. How can I be upset about that?
