My dad used to tell us this story of when he worked up north in Canada on the pipe line. The winters up there are very cold, getting to as low as - 40 . Back in those days the street lights were made out of wooden poles and the lights would generate a lot of electricity and heat, not like the energy efficient ones we have today. A Raven’s wing span reaches from 46" to 56" .
Dad watched the Ravens one day out of his hotel room. He noticed that when the street lights came on the birds would perch on top of the light posts to keep warm. During the day he worked so did not notice anything unusual until his first Sunday off. He watched in amazement as the Raven would spread out their huge wings and wrap them around the street light, causing the street light sensor to think it was night and turn itself on. Then the Raven would hop up onto the light post and go back to warming himself on the street light. Ravens are thought to be one of the smartest birds, maybe even Smarter than Jack?
