The Best Dog

We had a Koolie called Boldova, shortened to Dova, she was so smart. Dova unfortunately got Pancreatitis so I had to watch what she ate very carefully, I usually cooked her food or sometimes brought it from the vet. Our other Koolie JC could eat anything, I thought it would be hard feeding them differently but Dova proved me wrong. All our dogs are taught not to touch the cat food so having a bowl of dog biscuits next to the water wasn't a problem for Dova, she learnt never touched them, unless JC dropped one then it was fair game, I even saw her fishing in the water bowl after JC dropped one in there. Both dogs got a biscuit at bed time so as soon as I went to the cupboard Dova would rush into bed & wait for her treat. When we went in the car they got one as well, if JC didn't eat her's Id put in the front, Dova knew it was there so when we headed for home she'd look over the seat & give me her special look, squint her eyes & blink, we called it "doing the hairy eyeball", then pull the corners of her mouth back & look at me then look at the biscuit then then at me until I gave her & JC half each, I'm a sucker for "the face". Dova was so trust worthy she never touched the cat food, biscuits right next to the water or groceries in the back of the car & she was the kindest, most loyal & loving dog which made it all the harder when she had to be put down after she got leukemia. I keep wondering why it hurts so much to do the right thing, RIP my friend.

I'm sure he had a lovely life

You may have lost Dova but the memories are always there. She will always be there.

Joyce is right; it's better than not giving a damn. Dova was a special dog who will live on in your heart. She was lucky to have you and JC, giving her such a good life. Her body may be gone, but the love you shared will never die - and she knows you did the 'right thing' because you loved her.

This story made me smile even though the ending was sad.
Many of us ask the same question. "Why does it hurt so much to do the right thing"
Better to be that way than not give a dam, I say!!

What a lovely dog,at least you saw to the end, but it is always hard to say goodbye even though you know it has to be done.
