Return of the Jedi
We had a Long Haired German Shepherd as we were growing up named Jedi. He was brought up in a house of 5 young children and became a fantastic family and neighbourhood dog. He grew up surrounded by kids his entire life which is why it was no surprise when he did the unexpected. Our house was at the end of a cul-de-sac and as kids we would always play at the end of the street on the road. Being older now, we noticed a mother on the footpath and her 4 year old daughter playing out in the middle of the street. Jedi heard a car slow down at the top of the street before it even entered and took off onto the road. Before the mother had time to react to the sight of a great big hairy shepherd charging for her daughter, Jedi had already slowed his pace to a walk so he wouldn't scare the young girl. He then slowly and softly nudged her body so she was facing the footpath and guided her back to her mother keeping himself between the girl and the car. From that point on we noticed that he would always walk with the kids when they were on the street keeping himself between the kids and the road. Always keeping them safe from the cars. He was sometimes called The Littlest Hobo by the kids. (TV show about a lone German Shepherd that helped out strangers)
Unfortunately he is no longer with us but is always remember by the neighbourhood and by those that were lucky enough to meet him. Some people still ask how he is doing and it still brings tears to my eye's.
