When my mother in law died we inherited her cat a seal point siamese called Joey. We already had two cats, one male, called kitty and a female called mooch. We were concerned about the reaction from the male cat as he was the king of the home, being the hunter and gatherer of small and large fury creatures that inhabited our lifestyle block we had before moving to Aus. It was his hunting domain, and mooch, even though she was so fat she couldn't catch anything anyway, unless it died of starvation waiting for her to leave its hiding place, was swatted out of the way. Kitty never shared anything, if he caught it, it was his, the bed was his, the spot in the sun was his as well.
The night we brought Joey home we put him in the bathroom, so the other two would get used to the smell of another cat in the house. Joey being siamese and vocal soon let the whole house know that he was not impressed! So much for introducing him slowly and quietly. We let him out of the bathroom and introduced him to our two. Mooch couldn't care less, another food bowl she could pilfer kept her happy. Kitty stared at Joey for a few minutes, sniffed, and left the room with his tail in the air and departed through the cat door. We were worried, would he come back or was his nose out of joint? A few hours later, Joey was in front of the fireplace with Mooch, (in Kitty's spot), when in walked Kitty carrying a dead mouse, which, with a purposeful strut, Kitty walked up to Joey and deposited the mouse at Joeys feet and then walked out of the room. Kitty never shared anything, and yet this was like a welcome gift to Joey. They never hunted together and never again did Kitty ever bring another mouse to Joey.
