Old Whitey

I believe that Franz, our beloved German shepherd, enjoyed living in Germany as much as we did. In the 1950's, my wife and I were assigned "quarters" on Ramstein Air Base. All 3 of us made frequent use of our balcony - but not always in the way intended! While Nan and I were away one afternoon we left the door open unto the balcony. Franz, the gentle giant of 130 lbs. and not a sliver of fat, tore off a 6 foot vertical piece of steel from the balcony door frame. Then he apparently thought it wise to tidy up and ate much of the loose plaster which had fallen to the floor. The following day and thankfully in the woods, he made a white bowel movement of heroic size! "Old Whitey" remained a wondrous landmark and was still in place 2 years late when we were reassigned to the US!
