When I was under five (can not remember age) my Dad who worked for the local council told my Mum the Dog Pound at his work had a cat there who was perfect with kids and so soppy they had been holding him longer than they should and did not want to put him down.

We went to see him and took him home, he was a fluffy grey and tan tabby. He scratched my mum on that first day and mum did not want him in the house. But as soon as I or my brother picked him up he wrapped his arms around our necks and buried his face in the neck and purred like buggery.

It appeared he had been hurt or mistreated by adults somewhere before he got to the pound and distructed them but loved kids. It took two years before charlie would climb on to mums lap.

Charlie was very patient with us kids. I used to dress him in dolls or baby clothes and put him in my dolls pram and he loved it, purred and purred. Many times we had to chase him though when he had had enough and was making a un for outside to resuce the clothes. After I had stopped playing with my dolls and even had left home, Dad used to find Charlie in the shed fast asleep in the dolls pram and or dolls cot that had been stored in there. I think he had good memories.

Charlie used to follow us kids every where, many many time i had to carry him home after he had followed me to a friends house and or school.

He used to wait at the end of the drive every day at 3.30 for us to come home from school, and even after I had left home mum said at 3.30 charlie would trot up to the end of the driveway and sit by the letter box.

After I had left home, kids moved in over the back fence. Mum said Charlie would disappear (he was an old cat by this time) and she would call him and then hear the flat door open over the back and charlie would appear. He was over there playing with the kids.

I was very upset when Charlie died when i was 18.

A much loved puss and he loved us kids.
