ADOPTING A NEW ONE
The former owner of the present house that I am living in, had a little terrier called Solomon which his ex wife dearly loved. Unfortunately, he was not able to look after Solomon any longer because of poor health.
Solomon was a nice little dog who liked seeing me whenever I called in.
After my marriage broke up, I bred a lot of dear little corgis, including two who became champions. Its my only claim to fame. In spite of having my two corgis, I took Solomon because I could not bear to have dear Solly put down.
The night before my belongings and my two corgis arrived, at the new home, Solly and I had a good play. I put his bed beside mine in my bedroom. We both had a good night sleep.
When the corgis arrived the next day, I kept Solly tied up, until I could introduce them to each other. After sorting out my needs, I put Cinny, my dear corgi and the mother of Bessy the other corgi, on the edge of the lounge couch, and brought Solly in. I put Solly on my lap and told Cinny and Bessy that this is Solly, and made each of them come closer to him. Solly was interested, and Cinny having been a good mother, was quite nice just touching him on my lap.
After taking them all for a walk around the garden, and giving them all a meal together on the floor in a plate, for each of them, the introduction carried on.
It all went well afterwards and they all enjoyed going out in the car with me as well. A nice walk along the local beach was enjoyed by us all, and having met the local Vet they all had annual checks and immunizations.
Solly was a bit older then Cinny, and as he aged he did not see well, so Cinny
made him move with her, and at dinner time, Bessy was likely to eat his meal as well if he hadn’t had it all, so Cinny took over and made Bessy eat alone, and sat with Solly until he had all his. It all went well for many years and they seemed to be doing quite well. As Solly slowed done a bit more, Cinny would wait for him to come to the door to go out, and go with him on to the lawns each morning, and evening before going to bed.
The dogs had been together for nearly ten years but old Solly started giving up with the problems of ageing. Cinny was concerned for him, and took him outside with her, and the night when he passed away in his sleep, she was as upset as I was. Having had Solly with the two corgis was a pleasure. The corgis and I still miss him. They lasted about as long as Solly did.
My dog years were very nice, and now I can only walk alone, if at all.
