Raptor in Bridgetown

Raptor of Bridgetown

A few years ago, my Aunty's cat had a litter of 4 kittens. There were two boys; Raptor and Tom, and two girls; Sally and Fundi.

My aunty lives on a farm and about a year after the kittens were born, a fire occured! Hundreds of sheep were burnt to death or were injured and had to be shot. A lot of damage was done to the fences. Raptor and Tigger, one of the dogs were missing after that fire. My aunty and uncle then decided that all the pets should be kept inside in the evenings. One day, Raptor returned seriously injured. He had been hit by a car, and scarmbled up the long driveway up the stairs into my cousin's room, threw himself on the floor and meowed softly. My cousin immediatly picked him up and brought him down to my aunty. The mother cat walked over and licked him softly and meowed as if she knew her own. Unfortunately, Raptor's injuries were so severe, he had to be put down by the vet.

Eventually, Tigger returned with no injuries. We were overjoyed but we can't help thinking about Raptor. What a courageous cat he was. He came back to his owners as if to say " Goodbye". Raptor's couarge will never be forgotten...
